Perhaps best known as the 'creator' of Isla Weyr (though not everyone at the Weyr knows or cares about this), Cynte is a gold rider who rides one of the smallest queens in the Weyr. She rides in the Rising Mist Wing under K'man and white Mixuith, is the weyrmate to the most well known blue riders of Isla (Philippe), and is the official Record Keeper alongside Synde.

Description

Cynte is a human from Earth who has blond hair and grayish-blue eyes. She stands at 5'10" and has fair skin. Cynte prefers simple clothing, usually wearing the Pernese equivalent of jeans and a T-shirt though doesn't mind dressing up for gatherings.

Personality

Typically quiet and reserved, Cynte tends to keep to herself. There are those in her life that she is more vocal and outgoing with but those people are limited to mostly her Wing and other close friends she has in the Weyr. Despite now living in a Weyr that was once thought to be just her imagination, Cynte still writes, draws, and keeps her imagination going, mostly by trying to help Philippe solve problems.

Possessions

Cynte is usually seen with a datapad (which is the Earth equivalent of an iPad perhaps), which is connected to the local data servers and allows her to work on organizing and updating the clutch records, which she is primarily in charge of. It also allows her to do other things, such as write, draw, and download books to read from the servers at Landing when she visits (which is quite often; or she just sends Philippe to if she can't).

Family

Felecia

Cynte's youngest sister who was also (later) Searched by Philippe and M'len for the same clutch. Instead of staying at Isla, however, Felecia and her rusted brown Auroth moved to Monaco Bay Weyr and has remained there since. They still keep in contact and Felecia often visits to visit her niece and nephew (as in spoil them).

Relationships

Philippe Ramsey

In addition to being the first person (tied with M'len in truth) that Cynte met from Isla, Philippe is also her best friend and has been since her arrival. She got along with him easily, as he liked to tease her, which she often teased back. She is supportive in most things Philippe does and adores him as friend and lover. Cynte is actually supportive of his relationship (or possible relationship) with Elia which has him confused (not to mention convinced the two are plotting something against him...which they are not).

K'man

While K'man is technically her weyrmate, this one-time flight is usually brushed to the past between the two of them now that Philippe is back. Cynte respects K'man and being one of the very few that know beneath his stern demeanor is just a man that has been through a lot and is starting to learn to live with it, they now get along very much like father and daughter more than weyrmates.

J'ren

J'ren is Cynte's favorite Weyrleader (excluding J'tha) though he is also the only Weyrleader who has been Weyrleader while she's there. She was on Team J'ren during the thing with Kahii and never regretted that, though she was upset at how that ended as she never wanted Kahii to die. J'ren and Cynte have a relationship similar to brother-sister and while they pick on each other, both know when to behave.

Elia

When it comes to Elia, Cynte sees a friend - and perhaps a partner-in-crime to pull pranks on her weyrmate. While Elia and Philippe definitely have their past to work on overcoming, Cynte is certain that Elia will always be there and she is fine with this - after all, she herself is only human and eventually age will catch up to her while Philippe remains as he is now. Elia, however, is an elf who is young and will live as long (or longer) than Philippe. Playing matchmaker for Philippe's future may have a bit to do with her acceptance of Elia.

Pets and Companions

  • Enya

    talking pale gold firelizard, female

Enya loves to pick on the ones she adores the most, except her Impressor. Philippe is her favorite and the fact that he does not like firelizards is basicly lost on the little talking gold.

  • Elnora

    white w/ gold firelizard, female

Unlike her namesake, and her companion, Elnora is laid-back and casual in nearly everything she does. Cynte claims she's part cat as Elnora really does things when Elnora wants...

History

Cynte was born in Minnesota in 1985 to unmarried parents (who later married after her birth). She was the first of three children, all girls, with her half-brother being born years later when her parents had divorced.

Her early years were spent around horses. Her first horse was a black gelding nicknamed Bucko who was given to her by her father when she was a year old (Bucko was two). He had broken his hip and was unable to be ridden past a trot which made him a perfect first horse for a little girl - minus his size which was very tall. He would later be put down when his hip became too painful and caused trouble for him. After Bucko would be Kasie, a sassy mare who was Bucko's half-sister. Kasie would later foal Zeenith in 1998. Cynte raised and trained Zeenith on her own (with her mother's help), taking him to the local shows where they often did not place but she enjoyed the challenge and task of training him regardless.

In addition to horses, she had a passion for drawing, writing and reading. In high school, she was convinced by a friend to create an online Weyr for adoptions. She called it Falas (which meant 'shoreline or coast' in Sindarin elvish as she was big into The Lord of the Rings at the time).

In 2003, Cynte graduated and moved to a small city to go into graphic design, having found a passion in web design as well. During a major snow storm, she drove to the school simply to use the internet. When leaving she noticed several figures walking into the parking lot and (having seen one too many episodes of CSI), she moved to her car as quickly as she could. The two men turned out to be Philippe and M'len who were Searching Earth for candidates for a special clutch and wanted to Search her. At first Cynte refused, even after recognizing two of her own characters. Philippe convinced her to at least come see the Weyr (which was actually called Isla rather than Falas), and she went to Pern to do so. When Philippe tried to bring her home, it was discovered that there was a dimensional shift and now there were two Cynte's - one continuing to live on Earth and the other now living on Pern. As such, Cynte was taken to the IGPC to stand for the All-Earth Clutch. Several weeks later, she Impressed Phalinth.

Because her dragon was a sport, she remained at the IGPC for almost two Turns before being able to transfer to the main Weyr, where she wanted to be as most of her new friends were there, including Philippe. A part of her hoped that her dragon would never rise (because picking a favorite character to be her boyfriend was not something she wanted to do), but it soon became clear that Phalinth would rise. When Philippe and K'man started to argue over her wellbeing, Cynte trusted Phalinth who took her back in time to just after Yakima's assumed suicide and met with J'tha. It was only then that she realized the truth about one of her most obvious plot hole from before she left earth - how J'tha had known who and when to send the riders of Isla to save the Weyr, and how he knew K'man was going to be the one to undo the curse (among several others plot holes). She then helped him with his plans and went with him to get messages to each of the riders involved before saying goodbye and going back to her time.

Less than a day after coming back, Phalinth rose in her first mating flight. Faroth and Philippe returned just in time to join. While another male initially won, Phalinth panicked and Faroth rammed into both to break the connection before Phalinth went between. Faroth then soothed her and won the flight making Philippe officially Cynte's weyrmate. After the flight, Philippe revealed that he had had a crush on her from almost the moment they met which was the real reason he had always been around but given she seemed to think of him more of a friend he had kept his mouth shut. Cynte informed him she would rather end up with her best friend than the hottest guy in the Weyr (to which she had to admit was probably Philippe anyway).

Not long after the mating flight, Philippe began to have strange episodes similar to sleepwalking but far more violent. He eventually began to attack people, nearly killing M'len when he went after Cynte. Because of this, he was sent to Sentra to find the fabled Elven King who could cure what M'len believed as a curse from when the two of them were captured in Aspholanth on Sentra while Searching. While he was gone, Cynte learned she was pregnant and eventually convinced M'len and K'man to find him so that he could come home sooner. Unfortunately, Philippe's decision to undo the curse on the city of his birth resulted in his death. Before his passing, he managed to spirit walk with her to say goodbye as his body was too weak for him to open his eyes. Before dying, he told her he knew about their child, and that it was a girl.

Tynena was born several months later and, not really knowing elven naming customs, she was given a second name of Riverfire (which is a loose translation of her name). Moving on without Philippe was hard and there were easier days and harder ones. After she could give Tynena's care over to the Mothers of the Lower Caverns more often, Cynte rejoined the fighting wings, needing to do something other than just sit and miss her best friend. She started to realize that others were not dealing with his death any easier than her and eventually, after K'man went after M'len who was becoming too reckless in Threadfall, Cynte punched her Wingleader in the face (immediately regretting it because that hurt). She then told K'man off. Later, K'man and Cynte was transferred to J'ren's wing with K'yis taking over Rising Mist until the whiterider could come to terms with Philippe's death. M'len was later transferred to Monaco Bay as he could not remain in Isla without seeing Philippe everywhere. J'ren told Cynte he was actually glad she had told K'man off, but he had to punish her just the same because punching your Wingleader isn't a good thing. In truth, Cynte was glad to be in a new wing for a while - the change helped.

When Phalinth flew again, it was Mixuith who caught her. While this was quite weird at first, Cynte used the chance to talk to K'man and get him to talk about Philippe. He soon began to let the elf go and move on.

On a particularly difficult night, unable to sleep, Cynte took a walk along the beach only to find Philippe (very alive and well) and Faroth (also very alive and well), on the beach with Philippe's body. Philippe explained that there was a loophole and he had found it - he goes back in time and resurrects himself and Faroth but he would need Cynte's help in the coming days, mostly in keeping his return a secret. He asks her to leave while he casts the ritual spell, then brings his and Faroth's still firelizard-sized body to her weyr. Here, he recovers for a few days before Tabenyen's mind snaps and he turns on the Weyr following the hatching of Nysheth and Ainnth's most recent clutch. Cynte tells Phalinth to wake Philippe up despite the elf's orders to let him wake up on his own and the queen does so, which allows Philippe to save the Weyr before Tabenyen could destroy it.

Cynte then remained in the Weyr while Philippe went to Sentra to finish the Lich Lord Morpheus once and for all. When Philippe recovered in Astrael, she and Tynena went to visit him (which also gave Turold and Randaril time to spend with Tynena). Later they returned home. Philippe and Cynte then moved into weyrs that shared a ledge so that they could be closer to each other but still have their own private space.

After Philippe was rescued from the Complex, Cynte and Tynena came to visit him in the hospital before the family returned to Pern. Philippe then proposed the Memorial Clutch to commemorate the End-of-Pass Hatching as the 17th's open clutch since coming to the Eleventh Pass. Cynte went to J'ren first and was able to convince him (not that it was hard). Just before the mating flight for the Memorial Clutch was flown, she discovered she was pregnant again and went on maternity leave to prevent a miscarriage. Tymarion was born a month before the Memorial Clutch hatched.

Cynte had little to say during the events that would lead to the move into the Realm as while she is technically the creator of the Weyr, she knows very little about everything going on now, as what was in her mind then might have changed since. She has also admitted to suspecting that Philippe's 'illness' prior to his death had something to do with his past (which was true), but at the time she was unable to figure out the how or why. She continues to be a passive player in everything, typically supporting Philippe.
