Weyrs
Weyrs are the communities where dragons and their riders live and train. Weyrs tend to have a meritocratic society where the leaders are chosen by their merit, which can be influenced by their skills and reputation amoung the weyrfolk. A weyr (lowercase) is the singular suite or unit where a dragon and their rider dwell within the Weyr. This can vary from a cave along the WeyrBowl, or in some case in the Southern Continent, ground dwellings simular to a small house. Each dragon and rider are assigned a weyr, though riders who are weyrmates will often share a weyr with their partner, even if their dragon remains in their assigned weyr, as most weyr's cannot accomidate two dragons.
Weyrs are led by a Weyrleader, who oversees the military aspect of the fighting dragons, and a Weyrwoman (known as a Senior Weyrwoman), who takes care of the 'people' side of the Weyr, including provisions and the non-riders of the Weyr. She may also tend to maters dealing with riders that do not include fighting, such as sleeping arangments or disputes.
Riders are divided into Wings, which typically consist of tweleve to thirty dragons and their riders. Most Wings are led by bronze riders, and seconded by one to two brown riders, depending on Wing size. Riders of blue and green make up the majority of the Wing's roster, as well as the Weyr's population as they are smaller and more versatile in combat when fighting Thread. Wings are often assigned a Flight, which consists of three Wings. One Wingleader is chosen to be the Flightleader while the other two Wingleader's are second in command. A Flight is a unit that is often deployed in Threadfall, and in addition to Wing drills, a Fleet will also perform drills together when the Flightleader )or Weyrleader) deems them nececary.
Non-riders, as well as Weyrlings who are not old enought to join the Fighting Wings, are those that keep the Weyr functioning so that the riders can focus on caring for their dragons and their training to protect Pern from Thread. In addition to learning about their growing dragon, weyrlings will assist in chores around the Lower Caverns, which is the central hub for just about everything in the Weyr that dosn't include dragons. Crafters also live at the Weyr, such as Tanners who help keep a steady compliment of leather ready to repair harnesses and gear for riders. In addition to the Weyrwomen, who are typically riders of the Weyr's small handful of queen dragons, the Lower Cavern's is primarily the domain of the Headwoman and/or Steward, watching stores, cleaning, and cooking meals for the entire weyr. The Weyr does not have drudges.
AU Weyrs
These are Weyrs that are made up for this dimension of Pern; they are not cannon.
Isla Weyr
Isla Weyr was originaly known as Island Weyr, used by the riders of the Tenth Pass to quickly bring the dragons of Pern back to full fighting capacity by sending people back in time to hatch and train riders. It was perhaps the worst kept secret between dragons, but after catching up to their own timeline, the dragons let everyone know they had always known about Island Weyr. Today, Isla flies with five other Weyrs as a support Weyr but also protects the Western Ring Island and Western Continent from Thread on its own.
IGPC WeyrHall
The IGPC WeyrHall has continued to not only bring the most colorful dragons to the planet - an unneeded task but one that they are most well-known for - but also to continue adapting and evolvoing the genome to better protect the planet. Dragons at the WeyrHall are often the most colorful. The wings fly under the direction of their own Weyrleaders and Wingleaders, but answer to the Weyrleader of Isla during Fall.
Dark Moon Weyr
Dark Moon was the hatching place of many Islan dragons near the end of the Tenth Pass, and bronzerider E'lan was once the Weyrleader here until they were asked to bring all those they could to the Eleventh Pass, too, by a particular time-hopping blue rider who was trying to fix loose ends in events. In the Turn 3016 AL, the Weyr was refounded through the efforts of Aerion and Isla Weyr. Azala returned to help the upcoming Weyrwoman-duo and to rebuild her Weyr.
Aerion Weyr
Isla Weyr was originaly known as Island Weyr, used by the riders of the Tenth Pass to quickly bring the dragons of Pern back to full fighting capacity by sending people back in time to hatch and train riders. It was perhaps the worst kept secret between dragons, but after catching up to their own timeline, the dragons let everyone know they had always known about Island Weyr. Today, Isla flies with five other Weyrs as a support Weyr but also protects the Western Ring Island and Western Continent from Thread on its own.
